Game of Thrones Family Tree
About a year ago, I was searching the internet for a neat, well-designed Game of Thrones family tree. I was looking for anything, no particular family, no particular colors. The only stipulation was that it had to be well designed.
For the life of me, I could not find any that made me jump for my credit card. So, I made the attempt to do it myself, and it was challenging. I hate to admit it but illustrations are not my strong suit. It’s probably because I find it painstakingly hard to not be anal about vectorizing the perfect curve.
I went through many style changes. I was so close to designing a set of Game of Thrones character emojis, so close.
Then I thought, “well how many of these do I need to make?”; so I began mapping out the family tree of Jon Snow. Then I got super carried away, and realized that the family tree was complicated as fuck. In this case, I didn’t have the time to create that many character illustrations, and I knew what I wanted to scope it down to. Obviously, I would do Jon Snow’s family tree.
Yet, there were still 22 characters to illustrate. To illustrate them all and quickly, I decided to create a symbol set of heads and eyes to get me started.
Then came creating icons for each house.
After taking a break and letting the project simmer in my brain, I finally finished it. As my mentor would advise me, at some point you just have to finish it, and learn from the outcome.
Honestly, I’m not totally happy with all the characters — especially Jon Snow — but it’s finished! if you see something’s missing or want to collaborate, hit me up!
Equally important, who’s excited for the final season of Game of Thrones? I can’t wait for the outcome of this moment.
